If you click the icon it takes you to the make new post page which it did before.
However, the search field that you type your query that would normally be there is new gone.
Thus the search function is gone.
Perhaps try and perform a search rather than thinking that just because they icon is visible that functionality is there. We aren't stupid, it is being called out for a reason.

It is missing from the desktop site. You have to turn on beta features in settings to get a search bar. It used to be around the movie posters.
