It's all a distraction. Israel wants Syria so they're agitating in Ukraine. China wants the islands off her coast so can now fire on anyone deemed to be challenging ownership. The Straits of Malacca are an even riskier choke point for household goods and oil. US has a coup d'etat, admittedly unravelling, but full-on distraction.
