Well, she was sure to use that keyword “proportionally” when she said that. So, in that case she’s not wrong. What IS wrong is to look at the numbers alone, and not the circumstances and driving factors. Why are black people in fatal encounters with the police at a rate that is disproportionate? Is it because, apparently, they view “teenage knife fights” as normal in some communities? Is it because they are TOLD they will die in police custody, so they fight like hell not to be taken into custody (self-fulfilling prophecy)?
