What do you want to bet before this is all over we're going to find out schools, pharmacies, grocer chains and public works are all doing this on some level? Think about the amount of stored information on all of us. Those cost saving memberships cards...information gathered, but who is buying it from them?
They certainly didn't in the UK when my son was at school there. When he was 12 he was given detention for "hacking the school computer system". I asked him how he got the password.
"I didn't," he said. "I just typed password and it let me in."
I wrote the headmaster explaining why my son would not be staying behind for detention and suggested that ALL the teachers get training on computer security.

It would explain why I haven't heard of scammers hacking into school databases. I doubt schools take great pains to protect them.
