Ship was held over a $21,500 anchor debt.
In the meantime, they keep sending in provisions for this guy, not to mention performing a hull repair when the ship started to take on water.
The cost of the repair and food etc. to keep this guy going for years clearly exceeded the anchor debt.

This is an awful story, I can't believe the Captain would ditch his first mate like this. What a scumbag!
Is this to get us used to the idea of people living on these ships in containers for years at a time?

Or maybe to normalize the 'hostage' of a ship (evergiven) for long periods of time. "Nothing to see - they do this all the time."
