It's supposed to stop "the government" from stealing your thoughts and implanting thoughts into your head. The latter did turn out to be a real thing (MK Ultra) but a foil hat wouldn't protect against it. Now, however, I'm thinking more and more that we might actually need to wear metal hats to protect against EMF such as wifi and 5G signals.
