I am so sorry you never got to hear it from him. I am glad his buddy was able to drag him out. Someone dragged my grandpa out as well. They actually informed his family that he was dead but my great uncle (grandma's brother) was actually wounded in the same battle and he informed them that my grandpa was alive. My grandpa surprisingly lived until almost 80 which impressive given the injuries he sustained.
