Israel not the Middle East? Excuse my lack of understanding but does anyone have sources on the relevance of Trump’s comment? Faux pas or something more? Asking for a friend.

He never actually said Israel is not in the middle east, but I don't understand the reaction of the Ambassador. I didn't feel he was slighting Israel, just stating he was treated well in Saudi Arabia. Perhaps I missed something.
