Why would you work on such a project? Are there really average joe computer scientists and engineers doing this shit with a straight face? I mean these people are reading this content while beta testing the algorithm. They know they are censoring factual content.

I can understand the USSR, China, or Nazi Germany where you would be executed or thrown into a gulag for not following orders, but a Facebook tech department?

Don't forget that as late as 2016, before Trump came down the escalator, FaceBook and Google were considered cool by most of the population, including those looking for tech jobs. China was not considered an enemy. It is easy to forget how far we have come in leaving the Matrix is such a short time.
