Police already have a database for insurance, if fact Alabama already does"random" checks for insurance and will cancel your registration. Unless you rather have uninsured drivers out there, I'm ok with it. Driving a car involves tremendous risk to all parties. People forget how deadly and expensive a car wreck can be. Push back in Illinois if you don't like the law, but these databases have existed for a long time.
The police do ask and run checks during traffic stops, I have no issue with that. I do have issue with this going to a 3rd party and being random. This is not going to force people to get insured. Half the people not carrying insurance are not even licensed drivers but continue to drive. Mandatory insurance laws have not improved number of insured drivers. As usual these laws are intrusion on the law abiding citizens. The criminals are not impacted.
I'm just making the point that these databases already exist and they already share them with leo
