You are correct about it:

McAfee has NO NEED to do this.

The point is he wouldn't do this alone but for example cooperate with Q team.

Pirates will be pirates ? Right. But wouldn't really pirate say where is the gold if he would be not hanged because of that ? Wouldn't he betray all to save his ass ?
