Apparently, the U.S. got a section of genetic sequence from the Chinese and used that for creating a synthetic model of the spike protein. If true, how on earth could we trust the Chinese for anything? Second, we never isolated the actual virus here to verify anything. If that's incorrect, I've never seen mention of it. Third, image a gene sequence being 1000 random letters in a string from which a 15 letter section is used to make the vaccine. Why that specific section? What happens if the next 15 letters are used instead? That's the supposed variant. It's all guesswork based on Chinese created sequences.
