Because if you crash you could fly through the window and hit someone or someone's property.

However, if you crashed, broken parts of the car could do the same thing anyway.

I wear my seat belt every time I drive. I also always wear my helmet when I'm on my motorcycle, but the laws are dumb. What difference does it make if someone chooses not to wear one? I've never heard of a driver dying because the other driver wasn't wearing a seat belt.
