Optics. Hang the shit on Biden, was the plan all along. Kick the clowns, save the kids, hang it around Biden's neck as a massive loss while accomplishing everything you set out to do which includes getting the Afghans into the business of self governance. Also, that fence that is mostly complete there on the Pakistani border is gonna make things easier to control (drugs and human trafficking).
