The Princess is known to have said to Gov. Tarkin, "The more you tighten your grip, the more slips through your fingers". I have only slight knowledge of the wonderful citizens of Australia but I suspect that the "authorities" there are soon to discover that the Australian people are not to be trifled with - and that NO ONE (especially the hired help) should deal with the Australian people disrespectfully.
The Australian "authorities" are on their current path - I think - at their own, very grave peril. Pride (and arrogance) goeth before the fall.
Revolution will probably follow. Ultimately there is but a tiny ruling group that are responsible for this.
