Mods, hope this is okay. Figured it might be a good idea for anons to grow their own food.
With shortages in stores and more likely coming, just thought I'd share this link on aquaponics. I plan to get my husband to buy a few IBC totes so we can get started. You can grow plants and raise fish for your family in a 45" x 45" space. The link is to an Australian site but is an excellent resource. I want a couple to grow bunches of vegetables in one and lots of fruit in the other. As long as we're investing the time, I'm buying heirloom seeds to get the most nutrition and no GMO's. You can purchase used totes. Of course, just use those that have carried food grade liquid.

aquaponics is difficult.....i would not recommend that is how one starts the adventure into hydroponics. Start with some dwc....keep it simple...kill some stuff when you make a mistake. I would consider using aquaponics the stage right before one tries to graduate to aeroponics. if it were me i would skip aquaponics all together....i understand the point and the fascination, but you don't understand the complications of such a thing until you have done the easy ones first.
My husband was a farmer for decades and I had a salt water aquarium for about 6 years, so we have a little experience. While I understand the difficulty, aquaponics is something I've studied since about 2012. The uncertainty we all face right now has encouraged me to give it a try. Luckily, it's not a super expensive experiment. Thanks for your advice though, it is appreciated.
