Really! Ask them if they can smell it. If they can smell it their masks don't work.
Actually you might want to ask them before spraying, "Do you trust your mask to prevent you from smelling this rancid odor?"
I’ve been wearing a paper mask since before COVID to scoop my cat’s crystal litter because it kicks up dust and hits me in the back of the throat. The paper mask helps a little. The other day I tried an N-95… could not smell anything or feel even the smallest little speck of dust. Anything less than an N95 isn’t doing a thing.

Cat litter dust is so insanely larger than a virus of any kind. It's not at a comparable scale.
