JAQing off is “just asking questions”, but usually the questions do nothing to promote discussion or drive conversation forward.
I notice these occasionally pop up, and while it is good to discuss events that happen (positive or negative), these posts seem to start from a place of hopelessness. Not conducive to positive conversation.
And the “It’s too much and I need a break” posts.
People. I love you.
None of us are rockstars, ok? It’s awfully self-indulgent and self-important to post that you need to take a break from it all.
Just go. If you know people on the board, DM them privately and let them know. But I can’t help but view these posts as a waste of time and energy. Not to mention, it just signals shills and trolls to pile in and exacerbate the negativity.
Imagine you’re at a party, and someone just gets up and loudly says “I HAVE TO GO, I CAN’T BE HERE ANYMORE FOR MY MENTAL HEALTH.”
On the one hand, you’d be glad the person took charge and is doing something about their issue.
On the other, now the party has a weird awkward moment, and you’d look at your friends and ask, “Why didn’t he just leave?”
EDIT: u/Iceman80 brings up good points about discussion and positively guiding new users. While I will agree with the points that discussion should be had regardless, I still find posts of leaving to be ultimately fruitless.
Didn't wanna be the first to say, freedom of speech til the day I die. Scroll past, or block if you don't wish to see .
You know, fair point.
I do scroll past the types of posts I mentioned, but I see them often enough to where I had to say something.
I believe the leaving posts are self-masturbatory, but I suppose I need to step out of myself here and realize people reaching out isn’t a bad thing. It just seems unnecessary to me.
I appreciate you not scrolling past my post and taking the time.
It is necessary to HELP with others when they feel overwhelmed, there have been times I had to let up for a bit, but I believe in WWG1WGA. We don't leave the wounded behind because they can't be positive.
