Last year, checkers at a local discount chain would ask you if you wanted to round up your purchase price? The overage would go into a weekly bonus pool for all workers. I never did and would regularly get someone behind me calling me out as cheap or making loud sighs. I finally came up with a canned response "So, we're all shopping here because we have extra money?". (no one replied or clapped)
The whole "pay the frontline workers more" or respect them more was a completely bogus premise from the start and changes the retailer/customer relationship subtly but definitely. You are essentially paying the business extra on top of what the business already makes for the privilege of buying in their store. It is the business responsibiltiy to compensate their employees for risk so that it can remain open not mine. So fuck you them that idea.
