There were some decent arguments implicating that they became what they are today because they went against God and became cursed. But since that doesn't impact me directly in any way I didn't bother to go on a deep dive on that one. Too many other things that are of greater importance than going down that rabbit hole.

Edomites are cursed through the rejection of the Abrahamic seed. Different curse than the one I had in mind. Don't have the details available at the top of my head, though.
