This was a debate here in Portugal a while back. To start, it has to have the request of the patient and it has to fulfill strict rules, there's a time, big, for the patient to reflect on his decision, and it has to be authorized/reviewed by a court of law. Very few cases would actually go all the way to the end, and unfortunately, there are not many few who wish to die in certain circumstances. Yes, Portugal is socialist, but not exactly as most people describe socialism there in America. Yes, government is left but it's actually, in fact, central left. Radicals here haven't been very lucky. Portuguese people are very conservative. A bit naive but mostly, are actually product of American views. If anything is wrong here, is actually influenced by the same evil that's attacking America and that's one of the reasons you need to win that war there. Portuguese people tend to flock a bit, that's true. With that said, you should read all the way to the end. Our President is Right, although he's really central, just like the government. I can see him allowing a well written law about the subject, but he won't allow a law that could have second interpretations and not be used only in those very specific cases, very rare exceptions. Yes, the central left and the left are trying to present it as an humanitarian issue, as a sort of mercy shoot and its using a sort of emotional propaganda on it, but I really doubt it would be accepted by the President without strick rules. This has been vetoed in the past and, if not absolutely correct, it will be again. I'm sorry, Portugal is the least of your problems. Things here can turn very quickly. If the 10 million population had access to your points of view, or interest, they would quickly change to your side. As is now, corporate media is in control and most people don't even dream they are sleeping and needing to wake up to a reality far different from those in the news. I cannot stress it enough. That's why it's so important for you to win this war. For you to expose loud and clear your facts. You just win there and the castle of cards will crumble all the way to here and the rest of the world. If not, I'm personally not concerned. Portuguese people are fighters and brave. They will see it when and if the fight arrives here. Many already do. We're just waiting and doing our part next to the European Union. We have different fronts here in Europe, specially with the Islamic invasion. That's a war you want and need us to win. Forget about leftist ideas in a country that is bound to be balanced and centered. Our revolution so demanded it and there always be fighters and brave men here. There's a reason why we explored the world and conquered half of it while surviving blood/gold thirsty Spanish neighbors. Don't worry. We'll manage.
