I thought it was a big deal when viruses broke species barriers. Like it was something that only happened in a Chinese wet market under perfect conditions...?
Covaids seems to be jumping to all kinds of other critters.
Rabies jumps species like this. Has any other virus, ever?
There are only a few animal reservoirs for rabies though. Rodent families, I believe.
Most viruses that spread between species are just a handful of animals. For example, even though HIV is spread by blood, mosquitos don’t spread it.
For something to affect felines, giraffes, canines, bovines, etc… that is pretty unusual.
And bats, which are ubiquitous though unnoticed. Vaccination is futile against such a high number of species that could carry a corona version which could become a zoonose.
