I never seen to many star standing myself. The are positioned in the Heavens in scripture called “the watchers” as meaning to watch over
Before Timex and apple, people knew the time and date by the alignment of the stars, planets, moon and sun. In the Old Testament, the coming of the Messiah was prophesied and signs of the heavens were given. It's several different scriptures but the shepherds would have known it when they saw it.
