It's not so much that they're stupid, it's that they're cowards. There are smart people living under constant cognitive dissonance and cope with it by pretending they love the crowd of dumb scared people they threw their lot in with, reality is they're scared of ostracization because everyone's so over socialized these days and had competition taken from them as a concept.
