I knew a lot of people in the medical field. Virtually all of them were good-hearted and wanted to help people. You don't get into the profession without something like that driving you.
Don't kid yourself.
Any profession you make a lot of money has people in it for all the wrong reasons.
My first day in professional school we received a lecture from a Dr. in a surgical specialty. He flat out told us that if we were entering that profession to make a lot of money that there were a lot of easier ways to make a lot more money than this.
I couldn't think of any so I stayed and studied my ass off. Hope it wasn't all for the wrong reasons. I did a lot of patient care for the indigent with little or no compensation. The Good Lord did bless me however and I have a comfortable retirement having practiced the same specialty as the doctor that gave us that first lecture.
But the docs are trained by the med schools to defer to authority (CDC, AMA, etc.), and trained/forced by the insurance companies (including the government) to not deviate from standard practices.
Don't kid yourself.
