Who's there? Why is there a treaty by 53 countries protecting this area. You can take a tour only in two spots of Antarctica today. In NZ and the other in South America. Is Antarctica that big? John Kerry can go there. Why? Why did Potus say he will purchase Greenland. Does that have to do anything with Antarctica? Just trying to understand. Mods, Please don't deport because critical thinking should be allowed here.

What do you mean "can't go there"? Do they have patrols stopping people from sailing to it?
TLDR- Yes. The Antarctic treaty does not allow for independent exploration of the Antarctic region.
"Governments that are party to the Antarctic Treaty and its Protocol on Environmental Protection implement the articles of these agreements, and decisions taken under them, through national laws. These laws generally apply only to their own citizens, wherever they are in Antarctica, and serve to enforce the consensus decisions of the consultative parties: about which activities are acceptable, which areas require permits to enter, what processes of environmental impact assessment must precede activities, and so on."
You can only go there through tours. If you go on your own, you will be met with resistance by MIL forces.
