I agree and many more "death notices" than obituaries. The list of death notices (which is legally required, or at least it was when I was involved with newspapers back in the 80's) may have 30 names and only 2 or 3 obits. Weird. They dont want us to remember these people existed?
We just did notice when my grandma died. The newspapers jacked up the price from 100 to 500$ for a paragraph. That's from 2019 to 2021. The newspaper said they only want a certain number of obituaries and raise the price when lots of people ask.
That is so sad. I am sorry for your loss. I lost my mom a while back and it was just a small fee but a very small space. So we also wrote a story of her life and sent to everyone in her address book, it made us feel good to do that for her.

Some papers only publish obits for a fee. It isn't a regular "column" like it used to be.
