Back in the 80s during NBC training the Seals and SeaBees were briefed on new weaponry about every quarter. I recall the US had been perfecting a microwave weapon capable of cooking a tanks occupants while leaving the vehicle un-harmed and usable. I also recall it had the potential to sweep a battle field of invading forces. This was one briefing and never mentioned again.
Yeah, that's scary. Sounds like that kinda stuff is paying off. Things like Havana Syndrome, etc... playing into things.
Bro and that wasn't classified? Some of the stuff I saw working for a large defense contractor was a bit scary, but at a larger scale.
This is not how microwaves work and tanks have WAY too much metal in them for this to be remotely feasible even ignoring the first point. Let's not make ourselves fools.
I was there and it was a focused beam did not require containment like a countertop oven.
Microwaves have never, "required" containment - it's an efficiency thing more than anything and that's one of the main reasons as to why they're present in household microwave ovens.
You could have attended that event all day long but that doesn't change the reality of how RF works. You're not going to get something that can penetrate a tank at any significant distance where it can cause any immediate effects to the person inside the metal tank. It's a fundamental lack of understanding of how energy propagates.
