Yeah, our local school board and the teachers union here in a small N CA town is adamant that the physical and psychological torture of students will continue despite Newsom's wimpy-worded statement on mask policies.
Not one parent has stood up to speak out against masking their kids. A neighbor and I attended a recent meeting to voice our opposition to masking students. We are older and do not have children in school so I don't think our concerns held much weight.
It's so depressing to pass by an elementary school and see kids walking around in their "Super Hero" and cutsie juvenile-branded masks.
I am also in Northern CA. My kids have been participating in a mask protest and the school became much more hostile towards them today than the previous week of protesting before the break.
One of the administrators told me this morning that even if Newsome cancels the mask mandate, we still have to follow CDC guidance and that we are high risk here in our city so we’d likely have to continue wearing masks anyway. Ummm…. 🤔😡 This is still a fight!
We have an amazing man running for our district school superintendent and I’ve asked him to come meet with parents to help us prepare for our school board meeting tomorrow night. We are still fighting this as well as the vaccine mandates. We will not give up!
I was a homeschooler back in the day when it wasn't well-known. I'm currently helping a local homeschool group tackle all the new parents who have emailed with questions wanting to try it out. (So maybe there's hope for some CA parents!)
I'm conducting separate sewing classes for homeschooled preteens and teens. It's amazing how kids are not taught the basics on how to mend, sew on a button, etc., let alone the more advanced skills like clothing construction. I taught my teens how to refashion thrift shop finds. It was quite creative and they had a lot of fun with that project.

Wow! Good for you! Keep up the fight and back those who can make a difference!
