That's how I read it right now, since Trump is not in office but everyone still thinks he'll run in 2024 he has to play along with narratives that make Biden look bad. Putin likely already knows how Trump really feels and if Trump didn't condemn the media would be all "RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA" on his ass again.
