Back in the early days when the Internet started opening up to citizens, e-mail names were non-case sensitive while passwords are not. To fix e-mails to be case sensitive seemed like too much to retrofit. Tech including GPS, SM was developed and then they learn how to use it against you.

GPS started out as military only, then a lesser version was given to the public. Both military and civilian GPS has been upgraded. The military version is accurate enough for drones to swarm an inch apart, while the civilian version is accurate within a few feet.

The next iteration will be inches accuracy (Via 5G) for civilian use and within nanometers for the military (nanotech within the human body).
