Honest question: I've never gardened and don't really have the materials or the inclination for it. It's not exactly free to start gardening. Wouldn't I be better off just buying a few years worth of canned goods? I'm not anticipating that we go back to the dark ages. If so I'll probably die either way.
Gardening is better than buying canned foods. Buying canned foods is better than starving. It's like the argument about whether you should get canned veggies, frozen veggies, or fresh veggies... get which ever type that you are most likely to eat! So if you'd rather prepare for food shortages by stocking up your pantry, do it!
