The 16-year-old farmer's son, who was shot at by the police on Tuesday evening at the farmers' protest in Heerenveen, says he was shot when he tried to drive past the police with his tractor. Jouke Hospes from Akkrum in Frisian says in an interview with Omrop Fryslân that he decided to drive past the police blockade because he followed the procession of tractors that also drove around the police cars.
Footage of the incident shows a red tractor driving past the police cars, after which the officers on the spot draw their weapons. Two shots can be heard. When asked what happened before that, Hospes says: "The atmosphere was pleasant. There was really nothing to worry about. So I want to know from that officer why he did this, because it could have gone wrong. I could have died. to be."
The police have not yet commented on the incident, despite repeated urging from the NOS. A spokesperson says he is not allowed to say anything because the Public Prosecution Service is speaking. An OM spokesperson cannot say anything while the investigation is still ongoing
Jouke was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder and taken to the police station. Police later reported on Twitter that a tractor driver tried to drive into officers at the police blockade. Three people were arrested but have since been released.
The boy gives his version of the story in the interview with Omrop Fryslân. After the departure from the distribution center at an industrial estate in Heerenveen, which was blocked for some time on Tuesday evening, the tractors drove through Heerenveen to the Thialf Stadium. "It was nice there too, but at a certain moment we wanted to go to McDonald's. A tour through Heerenveen."
Hospes was at the back of the line of tractors when they encountered two police cars at the highway entrance. "All those other tractors drove around it. I was left alone. I wanted to pass it then too. I wanted to drive quietly in the other direction," he says.
"You can see that in the video that I am driving away. When I was gone, I heard a dull bang and it turned out that shots had been fired. At first I thought about rubber bullets, but when I got out in Oudehaske to see what had happened , there was a big hole in the tractor." Moments later he was arrested.
Hospes was suspected of attempted manslaughter, but after further investigation, the Public Prosecution Service says that this is no longer the case. He was released from prison yesterday . He still remains a suspect, but the Public Prosecution Service does not yet want to say what the suspicion is now.
"I'm doing pretty well, but it's a mixed feeling. You're free, but someone has shot you. I also want to know from the police why they did this," says Hospes. "The question is what exactly happened. You can see in the video that I am not doing anything wrong."
Two men aged 34 and 46 who were arrested were also released last night. None of them are suspected of attempted murder. The investigation should show whether they will be prosecuted elsewhere.
Farmers protested the detainment of the teen (and I believe the other 2 adults arrested).
