And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. — Luke 22:44
There have been many situations in my life where I have witnessed a large amount of agony and stress. I remember my days as a paramedic when I found myself having to share difficult news with families. I remember their cries, their agony, their screams. There have been times that I found myself in situations that were specific to my life as well.
Those moments in life can be some of the most intense to deal with. While we have the promise of a day when all the sorrows of this life will pass away, we are guaranteed to face these situations while we live. Thankfully, we have a Savior who knows exactly how we feel.
In the gospels, Jesus found Himself in intense agony over the sins of the world. We find that He prayed that the agony and pressure would pass from Him if the Father would allow it. We all know that the sins of the world didn’t pass from Him. He was doing God’s will, yet still found Himself in an extremely agonizing situation, showing He was truly wrapped in flesh just like us.
He bore the sins of the world to the cross and died for our sins. He didn’t suffer out of His own situation, He suffered because of us. The sins of the world were so much that it drove Him to such agony that His sweat became mingled with blood due to the stress. That wasn’t just any sin, that was yours and mine!
You can be right in the center of God’s will for your life, yet find yourself in an extremely agonizing situation. Just like Jesus, we may find that the situations in our life are not of our own doing. It could be the result of family, friends, coworkers, or others. No matter the situation, our Savior knows exactly how we feel.
You may not be in an agonizing situation right now, but you can be certain that it is guaranteed in life. Don’t let doubt creep into your mind that no one knows and no one cares about you. Your Savior knows exactly what you are dealing with. He knows the agony and pain. Simply trust God through the entire situation. God cares and will be there through it all.

Thank you...for reminding me today of all days. My husband of 48 years us dying from brain cancer, glioblastoma...the last 24 hours he has had seizure after seizure, yet stills tries to get up to walk to the bathroom but his legs no longer work and he falls and he struggles to get up, sometimes seizing again. He is a heavy man at about 250 lbs. My son has spent hours lifting him to get him back in bed, my husband in his delusions, is fighting those who love him best. I ask, why does God allow such suffering? So painful to watch, my brilliant husband, have everything taken from him...speech, memories, names, can't tell us what he needs and in these last days, can't walk, sit and physical functioning shutting down. I am breaking to watch the man I have loved go through this.
I am very sad for what your husband, you, your son are going thru. I choose to believe that our sufferings here on earth help prepare our souls for that face to face encounter with Jesus. Prayers for all of you during this difficult trial.
...fire purifies gold...
May God bless you and your family with the strength and courage to walk the dark valley that you are traversing.
In Jesus' Holy name we pray....
Amen...
