Jesus was not married, and although there are exceptions, catholic priests are supposed to follow Christ’s example and devote themselves entirely to evangelism and offering the sacraments. Additionally, all the apostles, as far as I am aware, also lived celibate lives spreading the gospels after Christ’s resurrection.
There are many priests that faithfully follow this example today, and there are some that do not. The problem has more to do with the embrace of modernism and the lack discipline in much of the modern church rather than the long tradition of celibacy.
Note that nocturnal emissions happen if there is no sexual activity. I doubt if there are many men able to not have sex of some type, even if only self-pleasure.
