Honestly, the problem is that we protect the worst in society from themselves. Then when they prosper and multiply we wonder how this could have happened.
The main problem began with that "greatest generation" and their lackadaisical attitude towards truth.
I saw it when I asked questions at age 6, in 1951, about the Korean War. 'How can a nation that beat the hell out of the most powerful military ever assembled in the Pacific be fought to a standstill by two nations that were utterly defeated by Japan?' The answer: "You will understand when you're old enough."
Few cared about truth then. Virtually no one cared (and still don't) about Vietnam, my war. Instead, we became barbarians, 'crazy Vietnam vets' who questioned everything about the war. That was two generations, the 'greatest generation' and my generation.
The gens that followed were much worse. Uneducated, uncaring, irresponsible.
That is the problem.
