Or what? If your phone number is already on there shutting down your account isn't going to protect you in any way it's not like you'll vanish from their database.

Maybe embedded spyware, is my guess. I almost never use it (TG) anymore, guess I'll delete it from my phone. Never installed FB or Twitter on my current phone.
