I have always thought that the SCOTUS should operate solely on their interpretation of the Constitution and not bend to public opinion, demonstrations, calls, letters, and any other form of coercion. I held this opinion back when people were demonstrating outside the court for and against abortion, for and against any number of hot social issues of the past few decades. If SCOTUS acts as they ought to -- not bending to pressure but rather interpreting the law based on the Constitution alone -- then a letter writing campaign is not necessary. IMHO, of course.
I agree with that. I also thought, if these justices saw how much this meant to citizens, they might be more willing to dig deeper into the issue for a deeper discussion.
Certainly they knew Roe v Wade would cause the riots that it did, but ruled it unconstitutional anyhow…. Just my opinion as well.
We anons share in the privilege of having our own opinions. Thank you, amon.
Very true. It’s one of the reasons I enjoy discussion here.
