I re-entered the workforce in April 2021 after driving Uber for five years and it equally sad and amusing. I live in a red state (Charlotte NC area). Average speech patterns of anyone under 30 best be described as a mashup of leetspeak, meme speak, Xanax chic, and "bruh" multiple times in every sentence. Coworkers and customers alike have hygiene issues and speech impediments. Everyone has earbuds in and are loudly shouting offensive lyrics especially the N word or talking about shooting up their opps. Most of the people I speak to talk too quietly to understand, often mumbling or rambling like you describe.
Every assignment has brand new management pretty much winging it daily since there's no staff to get anything done beyond the bare minimum. A lot of hotels are still using cv as an excuse to not offer breakfast, room service, or fitness center / pool access. It's obviously not covid, it's simply a staffing issue. No one can reliably show up early in the morning and the pay is too low to get anyone to be a lifeguard or clean rooms beyond using third party workers through a temp agency who don't speak English and can be exploited at that wage.
The cashier at the college bookstore didn't know how to make change. QuikTrip was supposed to be the best gas station in the area with the best trained employees and half the time they have one person in the whole store and always new faces who are obviously clueless or just don't care. Interesting since they pay them up to $19.50 an hour which goes pretty far in the south (but not in Charlotte since col has skyrocketed). We can never get what we need at food Lion or Walmart since it either can't come on the truck or it just sits in the back room since there is no one to stock merchandise.
