About Latin American Spanish vernacular, specifically regarding a word used to refer to people from Latin America, as opposed to "Hispanic", which refers to anyone from a Spanish-speaking country.
The Spanish spoken in Spain is different from the Spanish spoken in The Americas! Every high school Spanish student learns this!
