There are parts of Iraq that are STILL contaminated from the heavy use of depleted uranium (DU) by US tanks and artillery in the Iraqi war. I doubt Russia will tolerate this, and rightfully so. DU rounds (being highly pyrophoric) burst into intense hot flame and shrapnel when they hit their targets, and all of that effluvium and debris is radioactively contaminated.
US probably doesn't want to have the depleted uranium conversation. Our hands are very dirty in that regard
