This is Jordan Peterson’s argument. It takes a strong man, capable of harm, to choose to be nice and get along with others. Weak men are just playing nice for survival, but we don’t really know what they would do if they had the choices offered by power.

I think this is why we think power corrupts… most people are born with little power, then when they come into power we discover what sort of person they really are.

I see this in my friends that have trained BJJ or MMA for years. They are chill because they can defend themselves. Those are the guys you are glad are nice.
