If they kill him, it becomes the scariest 15 minutes of their life. If they spare him, they may live to see the rest of their life behind bars.

What option you think they'll pick?

If they have a choice, they would eliminate him. I'm not sure they have that choice. Yet the odds of protecting a man like him in large crowds is difficult at best.
