Why not? Perhaps you're using the wrong software to open PDFs. If I really don't trust a PDF, I use WordPerfect to pull out the text and duplicate the formatting. I have been downloading PDF files ever since they were invented back in the 90s and have never once had a problem. And I have downloaded tens of thousands of them.
