I’m not going to beat around the bush.
I watched it because I was curious, since Obama produced it.. or something like that. But I tried to forget about that while watching it. Which is hard for me to do, since I don’t even really watch (fiction)movies anymore .
It was annoying . Julia Robert’s character is written very heavy-handed , and has a flair for the obvious. Several times in the movie , she talks about how much she hates people . “I fucking hate people, that’s why I wanna get away..”.. ya , we GET IT. Then there are the subtle references that she’s racist against the black man and his daughter. Of COURSE, she mentions her kinky hair, why wouldn’t she, an aging white woman, why wouldn’t she be racist. So would Ethan Hawks character- though not as obvious. He runs into a woman begging for help who only speaks Spanish , and leaves her instead of helping her. Not that I would have helped her either in his shoes, but the point is , they made the white gut abandon the Latina woman.
Then they have Kevin Bacon play the redneck , shotgun toting MAGA extremist white supremacist ( ok they don’t mention Trump, but it was implied ) . Seeing as Kevin BCon is far from conservative in real life, I’m sure he and his wife had a big laugh about his role in between their frolicking about , making TikTok videos for trans rights.
All in all, a bad movie. It ended so abruptly, without ever answering WHO was doing this. I guess you were supposed to not care who it was , because without Wi-Fi, what’s the point of living, right??
There were references to Havana syndrome , and of course , the cyber attacks , and leaflets that read “
Death to America”, but it all seemed like Obama was both trying to egomaniacally be the first to put out movie lines like “ people think an evil cabal is responsible , when the truth is no one is responsible”, and also was trying to maybe steer fence sitters ( or Obama simps) in the wrong direction, when the truth about him comes out LATER ON.
Well, did anyone else here watch this?
What did y’all think?
