Door windows are now laminated, like the windshield. The old windows were tempered and would shatter into the small round pieces, easy to do with a tool or a center punch glass breaker.
Laminated glass must be cut to remove. We (fire department) use a manual glass saw, reciprocating saw or axe to chew through and around the periphery of the window to remove it.
Much more difficult to get through. But also reduces chances of ejection in a crash.
Any car that has electric windows will not open, when submerged. AND, the window breakers will not work, unless you get one with a snap tip.
But, yeah. She was probably a loose string and was disposed of for whatever reason.
