Julian Assange has reportedly agreed to plead guilty to violating the Espionage Act, in exchange for release from prison. Just a reminder: "possessing or accessing" material related to the "national defense" of the USA is something that the NYT, WaPo, WSJ, CNN, etc. do every day

Just like paying a lawyer a fee, and calling that a 'legal fee' is something that has been done probably billions of times and never resulted in any charge, much less any showing at court. Until Trump did it. Do you see lawyers complaining that they are unhirable now, that their entire profession has been banned due to a random idiot judge deciding that its unlawful for a lawyer to get paid with an appropriately descriptive term on the invoice? No.
If you accept it was a lie, it would be illegal supposedly only if it was in aid of some actual crime. Like a citable US code statute, not just some feeling someone had. Trumps defense asked, Alvin Bragg had nothing, ergo nothing to prosecute.
It doesn't seem like we disagree that there was a fraudulent trial conjured up purely as a delaying tactic and an attempt to interfere with the 2024 elections, by bribed judges and criminal prosecutors. You just attribute to it a veneer of genuine legal validity that I dont think it deserves - we can agree to disagree on that.
