For a small "crime" like that the Sheriff enters a bedroom to wake people up and question them?

Was there a warrant or some other legal reason for that? I don't know, but if not then I'd say the fact that the Sheriff survived the intrusion into someone's bedroom while they were sleeping is the sign of decline.
