Got the check cut at the bank, added the accompanying documents, certified my mail, and dropped it in a mailbox at the post office.
Yesterday, I received a letter that my taxes had not been paid. Went to the bank and discovered someone had snagged the letter with the check in it and ‘washed’ the payee off the check. They then added their name and cashed the check.
Will get the money back from the bank but have >$2k in late fees with the tax assessor.
