Maybe. A keystone is the central, topmost stone in an arch that holds all the other stones in place. In traditional stone arches, the keystone is the final piece inserted during construction, and it locks all the other stones together by distributing the pressure evenly, which allows the arch to bear weight.
In a broader, metaphorical sense, keystone can also mean the most crucial part of a system or organization—something essential for its stability and success.
True but Pennsylvania is called “The Keystone State”. Double meaning.
